5 out of 5 stars Great! But..   July 20, 2010

A truly fantastic pokemon game. A great one for anybody who's just stating to pokemon and even for those who played the originals. The pokewalker is easy to use and effective and the game itself is something you can always go back to as it has everything, including mini-game type activities. However in terms of completing the pokedex - it's impossible. This is the wordst thing I found as you need a full pokedex on pokemon diamond etc traded onto heart gold in order to gain 100% completion. This angered me as it is a barrier that cannot be passed without spending money on yet another game. If you're not fussed about a full pokedex then this is the game for you!

4 out of 5 stars A Dads view on a DS Game   July 19, 2010

All i can say is that the game has kept my dasughter quiet for days. It has been the only game that has caught her imagination , so there must be something very good about it.

4 out of 5 stars Nintendo Continues its Record of Good Remakes.   July 10, 2010

Obviously, the last remake of the Pokémon series was Fire Red and Leaf Green with which they set themselves an extremely high standard for remakes.

And, surprising as it is, they've met those expectations.

For a DS game, the graphics are surprisingly good and each town is individual in its own right. It keeps the the original story-line without simply making a copy and as well as, dare I say, improving it. Gold and Silver were my, along with many others', favourites games and expectation were always high.

The whole 'Pokémon-follows-you' feature is pretty cool (try it with massive Pokémon) but doesn't really add much to game play aside from make the whole journey a little less lonely. But it does add to the charm of the game. So Johto has succeeded in capturing fans' hearts for the second time around, but I think possibly my favourite feature in this game in the fact that you have to collect, not eight, but sixteen gym badges. In my opinion, this stops the game fading into dull and repetitive (which, though I do so love the Pokémon series, it has a tendency to do considering it's the same storyline every game.)

I also loved the Pokéthlon feature which I thought was way better than any super contest (I was never really enchanted by the contests on previous games) and let's face it, far more fun. Playing football against pocket monsters? Getting into a snowball fight with a Pikachu? Hell yes!

I also particularly enjoyed the challenge Red posed. He was the strongest in-game trainer of any game so far and let's face it, bragging about being the League Champion has lost its charm; everyone's done it. It's easy. Now, beating Red? Now THAT'S got a ring. Though watch out for that Pikachu, it's annoying as heck. I do, however, think that they could have offered some higher level Pokémon in the wild because the horrifically low levels of wild Pokémon means it could take forever to train. The redesigns of the Kanto gym leaders also added a little extra interest.

Overall, I think THIS was the game that really broke the mould for Pokémon, more so than Diamond, Pearl and Platinum. I think it does well to makes it definitely a part of the Pokémon series without conforming to the horribly repetitive story-lines. The news regions are all so very colourful it makes it a pleasure to play. The only reasons I gave it a four was the low levels of wild Pokémon and perhaps the fact that for some players, maybe 16 gym leaders plus the Elite 4 and Red could get a little tedious.

5 out of 5 stars It's embarrassing but...   July 7, 2010

I so love this game and I'm 32!!! I have never played Pokemon before, as I thought it was more for kids, but I was sucked in by the Pokewalker and OMG, I'm addicted! If I had more time I would be playing this non-stop, so if it's for a kiddy then make sure you keep an eye on how much time they spend playing!

I find there to be a lot in this game that is interesting for an adult, the characters are cute and there is something so addictive about getting your Pokemon to level up and to collect new species. So it is not just for kids at all!

If you like collecting and challenges that are not too scary, go for it! I love Animal Crossing and I love this. I just wish my DS could connect to my cable wifi :-(
